Packaging Operators

Background

  • Works under direct supervision of the Packaging Manager in a GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards.
  • Performs routine packaging operations of dry and liquid chemicals for storage or transport. The work process involves steps that are largely repetitive in character, requiring careful adherence to well-established instructions usually provided in operations manuals.

Tasks

  • Tends or operates machine that packages product; starts/stops machine by engaging controls.
  • Prepares product for packaging operation in most efficient way to ensure continuous operation.
  • Regulates machine flow, speed, or temperature.
  • Stops or resets machine when malfunction occurs and clears machine jams.
  • Adjusts machine settings and machine components for desired size or rate of product.
  • Observes machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to standards.
  • Removes finished packaged items from machine and separates rejected items.
  • Inspects and removes defective product and packaging material.
  • Stocks packaging material for packaging operation.
  • Tests and evaluates product and verifies product weight or measurement to ensure quality standards.
  • Secures finished packaged items by hand tying, sewing, or attaching fastener.
  • Cleans, assembles, and makes minor repairs to machinery and equipment using hand tools.
  • Counts and records finished and rejected packaged items.
  • Palletizes finished packaged items or packs items in cartons or containers.
  • Operates hand truck or fork lift.
  • Attaches identification labels to finished packaged items.
  • Completes packaging batch records for items packaged.
  • Organizes workspace (setup and teardown) efficiently.
Specifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of:
    • Basic levels mathematics and English comprehension
    • Basic level of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
    • Basic level of safety, health and environmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures
    • Skill in:
      • Troubleshooting and product inspection
      • Operation control and monitoring
      • Equipment maintenance and light repair
      • Management of material resources
    • Ability to:
      • Work in extreme cold and hot (120 F) environment
      • Comprehend oral and written English instruction
      • Lift 55 pounds and drive fork truck in safe and efficient manner
      • Follow established policies and procedures
      • Operate and maintain chemical processing equipment
      • Exhibit manual dexterity, perceptual speed and extent flexibility
      • Adopt to rapidly changing priorities based on business needs
      • Pass pre-employment physical with drug screen and physical capabilities test
